It seems Consumer Driven Healthcare is having another unintended consequence. Regardless of the severity of the condition, patients are asking emergency personnel for a cost estimate and then leaving without treatment if the costs are deemed too high. Signed last month into law, the Serve America Act is a 5-year expansion of the domestic service program AmeriCorps. 10% of the new slots are for volunteers who are over the age of 55. Only 13% of those surveyed in the recently released 19th Annual Retirement Confidence Survey indicated they were confident of having enough money in retirement. This is down from 27% in 2007.
