What’s the Harm of a Helicopter Parent?

I suspect the term Helicopter Parents is not a new one for many of you.  These are the “active” parents that accompany Generation Y and Z through much of their daily lives.  While older generations would be mordified if their parent called their employer to ask why the manager had been so mean to their son/daughter, younger generations appear to view their parents as a welcome extension of their network and resources.  If parents have the time and talent to handle their children’s issues or to take advantage of opportunities when their offspring can’t be in two places at once, what’s the harm?

No, I’m serious…what’s the harm?  I’d love to hear the pros and cons of embracing these hovering parents.
